My Chemical Romance guitarist Ray Toro says that all five members of the group were dealing with various personal issues while the band wrote its new album, The Black Parade, in Los Angeles earlier this year. But Toro told us that taking on the fictional identity of a band called the Black Parade helped My Chemical Romance get through the tough times: "Each member of the band was going through something difficult, whether it was in their personal lives, or musically, like, maybe just being like musically stuck for a little while, that was just, you know, very hard to get through. You know, kind of taking on this moniker of the Black Parade, I think it was almost kind of like a rallying cry or something that we could all kind of latch onto to be able to write this record."
My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way discusses staying sober in the new issue of Blender magazine, which goes on sale on Tuesday, November 21st. Way says that the band's success has kept him on track for the last couple of years, explaining, "What we achieve keeps me sober. I know the minute I touch a drink again is the minute I lose everything that I've got."
The band will begin a short run of U.S. dates on December 1st in Norfolk, Virginia, with shows confirmed through the 15th in Chicago. Most of the gigs are radio festival appearances.
The group expects to mount a full-fledged American tour in February and March
The Black Parade debuted at Number Two on the Billboard Top 200 and currently sits at Number 19, with total sales of 381,000 copies.
